    The application is for a upstairs bathroom with cold water tank in attic above.
    Its a full refurb and I am writing up the spec

    I presume the HW will require a Surrey flange fitted to the top of the existing HW cylinder, picture attached.

    A flange is always great but Mira, Triton, Aqualisa etc are quite happy if you take a Tee off the top of the cylinder, bring it down a few inches & curve it back up in a U bend. Dedicated cold supply from the tank as usual.

    On a related topic, all the tiles need to be stripped off stud walls, will the plasterboard need to be removed and replaced before re-tiling?

    It depends on the state of the walls when tiles are removed. I don't do this type of work anymore but if I did or next time I'm getting my own home done I think tanking is the best way to go. It'll never leak.
    Also when I did bathroom refits and the tiles were coming off I always suggested insulation boards on the outside walls. I did not charge labour for this as it saved me time preparing the walls for tiling. Even 50mm of insulation makes a difference.
    Not sure if you have any input into this bathroom but there's a few ideas for them to think about.
    I'm a plumber but there are some good tilers on here. Hopefully they'll see this thread and give better advice
