    Hi ,

We are looking at options we have for scrappage on an old banger that's not worth fixing.

Seat Ateca - Wife loves the look of this but no discount on this at all
Skoda octavia - Wife is so/so on this but we get a good PCP deal with 3.5k scrappage .

    Requirements:
Big family car , SUV/Saloon.... preferably new to avail of good service warranty and scrappage
I'm thinking petrol because of all the bad press on diesels now... i also think our driving is more suited to this, maybe 11-15k km a year.
Budget is no more than 28k

Any cars I should be looking at?

The new Opel Astra is a lovely car and well worth a look. Opel do have scrappage schemes sometimes as well not sure if they have one at the moment the same goes for Nissan they do scrappage a lot. The Pulsar is an ok car but nothing special.
The new Renault Megane is also well worth looking at its stylish and classy.
The new Peugeot 3008 has a fantastic looking interior and is now an SUV but there is a bit of a waiting list for it now.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Hyundai have a €4k scrappage bonus offer at the moment on the Ioniq.
RRP on the Ioniq is €28,495, drivetrain and battery capacity warranty is 8 years / 200,000km and of course electricity is 12 times cheaper than diesel.
One spec imported that's loaded with equipment.

Definitely worth taking a test drive, dealers usually do a 24-48 hour extended test drive for the EVs, so you can get a sense what it's like to live with the car.

They look great but we tend to be doing south west of Ireland alot so we need something that give us confidence in doing that distance. 174miles will get you to most places in Ireland but there's some risk there. No PCP on it either :(

OP, have you looked at an estate?

Seat are or at least were doing 0% PCP and 4k scrappage on the Leon:

I actually have, the wife is not for turning on it, we could get a great deal on the leon ... need to try harder to convince her

True, but it's worth remembering that if you plugin when you get home you start every morning with a full battery. Rapid charging gives you an 80% charge in 20-30 minutes and can get you pretty much anywhere with a little planning.
I've done Tipperary/Portlaoise to the UK, Germany and the Netherlands with no major issues. But day-to-day charging at home covers 95%+ of your mileage.

Seat Leon. I see Seat are also now offering a free full link technology and up to euro 2500 trade in bonus.

Ford Mondeo maybe. Its a big car and you might get one a little over your budget or maybe a demo model in budget.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yeah, i like the offers, good deals alright but the wife is not for turning on this. Wants a bigger car ... saloon/suv type and doesn't like the leon xperience !

She likes the Peugeot 3008 SUV... don't think accept scrappage or offer PCP on it though

Suzuki are making some great petrol engines at the moment and the SX4 is quite nice. You could have this with the 1.4 boosterjet engine.
