Boiler Question

Quick Question for the expert plumbers here!

I have a Firebird boiler, heating/hot water for the house. I'm building a flat and running the heating and hot water off the same boiler for the flat. If I have a separate system (tank/pump/valve/timer clock etc), how do I stop both pumps (i.e both systems) running at the same time if I dont need both on?)

Would I be right in saying that the pump beside the boiler (which pumps to the main house) runs automatically when the boiler is on?

Thanks in advance and sorry if my questions dnt make sense!
