    Hi All,
Very new to Boards.ie! I have recently got engaged and we would like to to get married in Ireland.
My fiancé is from the west and I from the east. We are looking at some venues for about 250+ guests. We have pencilled in a few viewings but are open for any suggestion. Ideally any venues between Dublin and Galway who could cater for our numbers would be greatly appreciated.
In advance, thanks for you help and comments.
    Emer and Rob

The biggest wedding I have been to was 230 and it was Rathsallagh house. Very very good. Bedrooms are quaint but beautiful. Its the kind of venue u have to see in person. Best of luck.

Glasson Golf Club (just north of Athlone). I'm biased as I'm originally from the area but it's a lovely venue, would easily handle those numbers and it has stunning views over the course and the lake.

Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone would probably handle the numbers too and I believe it's a very nice venue (never been to a wedding there myself).

    Isn't that in Wicklow?

We're getting married in Ashley Park. Think the numbers are 260. I love the venue but might not be to everyone's taste

    Hi OP,

Can you give us an idea of your budget per head? I think that would be really helpful rather than having people suggest places that might be wildly out of scope.

Most wedding venues would cater for those numbers. I've been to ones in The Bay which had numbers in the high 300s (though it begins to get squashed passed 300, its v comfortable up to that.
Glasson is NOT a good idea. Its a beautiful venue but as far as I recall once you go above 140ish the balance are put into a different room/floor I think.
The Bay is consistently good though.

Another option might be The Bridge House in Tullamore - like the Bay they specialise in weddings and have built up a good reputation for them over the years.

I was at a wedding a couple of years ago, like you OP the couple were from Dublin and Galway. They had their wedding at the Kilkenny Ormonde. Lovely venue and close to the center of Kilkenny for anyone making a weekend out of it.

If you're happy to go with Dublin I'd recommend our venue, the Royal Marine Hotel. A four star hotel that with a gym & pool & spa feels like a five star. It'd handle your numbers easily and the packages are amazing value because you don't have to add any extras. Their customer service with us was amazing. The wedding planner never took longer then two working hours to get back to us even months before the wedding. It's also handy for a lot of people with the DART and the aircoach coming right to the door.

    Hi,

Have you considered Johnstown Estate in Enfield, Co. Meath?

We got married there last year and have just been back for our anniversary.

The wedding team are absolutely fantastic and they are well used to dealing with weddings of all sizes and would definitely cater for your numbers.

They've recently refurbished their ballroom and restaurant as well as some of their rooms and I wish we were getting married there again as it looks gorgeous.

Their wedding packages seem to include a lot of things other hotels we visited didn't and they were very reasonably priced for what we got.

We had our ceremony there also and all of our guests were delighted with their accomodation, food etc.

You could look at Ballintubbert House in Laois.  That's about half way and they can cater for your numbers.
Martinstown house can go 200+ but they might need to add in a marquee.
A beautiful cost effective option is the Conyngham Arms in Slane Co. Meath.  They can take big numbers and are a great price for what you get.
