Car problems are draining me

I've a mk4 2007 mondeo, 1.8 LX TDCI. Has about 230000km on it. So many little issues have cropped up with it over the past year that it's getting tiresome.

Anyway - last night I was driving along and the car began to shudder quite alot and the "engine malfunction" light flashed on for a while. I brought the car to a halt and the engine sounded like it was dying. I got the car the short journey back and drove it an hour later, apart from shuddering ever so slightly the second time - it was OK. Anybody know what could be wrong?

Depends when it was shuddering. Under acceleration, under braking, when the clutch in or out etc. Literally a mountain of possible things, big and small. Could be as simple as dirty MAF sensor or as big a clutch / fly wheel.

A clutch flywheel issue won't bring on the eml.

It was shuddering under acceleration and the clutch was out.

Diesel issue, let's hope it not the pump. These go whack all of a sudden in them.

I'd rather it was the pump instead of injector issues. I think I will need to get a diagnostics done to get the error code that was stored from the engine malfunction.
