First off, thank you Wibbs for your help posting this. I am in no way affiliated with Patek Philippe. I am an independent watchmaker/clockmaker, graduating from the Irish Swiss Institute of Horology.

The advert posted, is as printed on page 139 of March 2017 edition of the British Horological Journal.

I note, every now and then, people express interest on the boards forum in perusing a career in watchmaking.. Take note that PP would prefer to recruit persons without prior watchmaking experience.

Best of luck and hopefully PP will embrace an Irish candidate..

Just remember though, you only look after the apprenticeship for the next generation.

^ :) One incredible opportunity for the really interested though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

When I was a kid I was mad in to computer games. And then I ended up in a job testing computer games. The job put me off games nearly completely. It was so utterly boring as it is too scripted or mechanical. No joy at all.

Sometimes your hobby does not convert in to a career. (Admittedly sometimes it does!)

I do love taking an antique broken watch or clock and getting down to component level, cleaning every screw, cog and plate and then reassembling. The magic sound when the watch/clock starts ticking again. New life. And then the fine tuning to get it keeping time just right.

But I could not do that as a job!

You're a few years before me so. I graduated in 99. And Fred...what a man. Complete head case, but a genius none the less. That Lancia he "modified" himself, special car.

Many thanks for posting this Origipolo.
I just emailed my cover letter and CV. Honestly I think it would be my ideal job as I love Patek Philippe pieces.
The Aquanaut is my favourite of them all, but to be honest I will probably never be able to afford one.
I started off modifying Seiko SKX's and now I just do Vostok Amphibia's.
Everything I have learned has come from Youtube video's so it would be nice to have some formal training in watchmaking.
Sometimes I get out of my depth, such as trying to size SKX hands to fit an Amphibia!
But this really would be my ideal job, as I could happily spend 8 hours a day working on pieces.
Also I know Gerrards Cross very well as I attended school nearby in Amersham. I have never been to Geneva though, so 23 months out there would be an interesting experience in itself.
