    Hi,

Moved house last year and when it started to get cold we knew the heating system wasn't working great as rads didn't get hot enough. Got by with lighting the stove etc.

Recently had a survey done for energy efficiency etc and was advised to get a power flush done on the heating system and a couple of alterations to the boiler. Also quoted to get the heating system zoned and fancy controlled panel installed that can be controlled remotely via app.

Total price after grant and "marketing discount" is €2500. Is this a decent price?

I know a power flush is around the €600 mark so the quote for the zoning and remote controlls comes in at about €1900.

    Any thoughts or suggestions.

Get a few different quotes(seems high to me but I haven't seen the job), ask your local merchants for tradesmen they'd let in to their house, ring the manufacturers of your boiler to see if they have a local agent who might help.

There is no restrictions or policing of who carries out plumbing work so the more effort you put into finding the right person the more likely you'll get what you paid for, Gary

You could always go for a wireless based system whereby all you do is fit wireless TRV's to the rads and have motorised valve splitting the heating/DHW as in simple S plan system. A switch on each circuit then controls boiler function and zone heating.
There is no real plumbing at all if you already have S plan fitted. If you have an old fashioned Y plan (3 way valve for heating /hot water) then you can simply fit 2 motorised valves to split these circuits and the rest is simple. You need to wire switches into the boiler and heating circuits.
You can also include simple manual override switches just in case you need to manually switch on DHW or heating.
Then using the system software via any Android device you can monitor and control each radiator knowing the set temperature of each. If you also have room stats you can zone the house making it much more efficient and self controlling.
As you are not re plumbing just doing very basic electrics the cost is very low ie. buying the wireless components. Of course you can then monitor control from anywhere you have your phone if you want to.
So fully zoned house is possible with zero plumbing.........

Thanks Freddy. A lot in that and probably beyond my capabilities to be honest.

Will defo shop around and see what quotes I can get etc.

Is the attached pic a motorized valve as you mentioned?

I had brand new Grant oil boiler plus 3 zone controls for 3k this year. Motorised valves plus wireless thermostats.

Unless your having significant replumbing done your getting ripped off if you're not getting a new boiler.

I got all that (except for the CO alarm) plus a boiler for 3k.

    Used House2Home

I have contacted House2Home re getting a quote. I assume they do a good job seeing as you haven't said anything negative about them?

Did you get the climote digital time clock or something similar in your install?

Both by the looks of it

They're both different things offering similar results. so I don't know why both are written down

I found another site that quotes similar price for the same job except they give the Power flush for free, valued at €500 so in essence they are pricing for adding the zones and installing the controller,

    with smart controller is €1999
    without smart controller is €1650

This includes a BER cert so roughly €1500 for the actual zoneing work.

Listen, nobody does a powerflush for free. Maybe a so called chemical flush, but not a powerflush

When I saw free I mean they discount they have an offer of full price less €600 which they state is the price of the power flush.

Have 2 companies coming tomorrow to price the job.
