Gender clashes with Cats.

I have two cats, one is a 15 year old male brown tabby (I believe his official breed is a Norwegian brown short hair tabby)

He's my guy, I've had him since childhood. I brought him with me when I first got settled with a place after college.

I had another cat during this time from kitten age who tragically died on the road at 2 and a half.

The problem we have these days is that my girlfriend has a 4 year year old female Calico cat. She's a beautiful little thing. The problem is my old guy tends to beat the crap out of her, he even attempts to mount her on occasion. This is just crazy to me as he was neutered back in 2003 as a young animal.

I've been through all the aggression before with introducing new cats to each other, but it has always been male on male, this is the first time my elderly Tom has to live with a female cat.

What should I do with them? Just keep them separate until they get to know each other better?

This isn't a gender issue :) Cats always have to establish dominance over each other. We had a similar situation in reverse initially where the female cat harassed our male cat until one day he got pissed and attacked her. Since then he occasionally does it to remind her who's boss but she's just biding her time ...

Read the header as GANDER clashes with cats..

    And yes, pecking order times.

I have two 12 year olds and a fairly new boy; around 2 years ago now.

The giri is bosscat. It has graduated from outright attacks ( no blood ever shed which is the salient point .. lot of hisses etc) to occasional nose kisses as long as he behaves as she wants ie respects her. Occasionally still full on lambasting when she thinks he needs it. As you say,the two boys are fine with each other.

As long as there is no blood shed? Pecking order time..
