    LONG time, no post :D

Having recently become a commuter, Ive noticed an annoying and moreso worrying trend...

Specifically the coming off the M4 westbound at the Kilcock/Clane roundabout and heading for the Enfield (3rd) exit.

Alot of motorists seem to be using the left lane all the way around to the 3rd exit because they cant be arsed doing it the right way, thus causing mayhem when up to 3 or 4 cars pile in for the same exit

Is this a new phenomenon of lazy/dangerous/getahead driving or am I just experiencing the delights of commuting in Ireland??

Nothing new. Most motorists have been doing that since it opened.

Having said that, most people don't use the correct lane or indicate on any other roundabout either.

It just seems that all rules in general have gone out the window. Maybe doesn't warrant a thread but I'm surprised that junction hasn't caused a few big accidents already

Guy in a van did the same thing with me just behind him at the Carrickmines roundabout the other day - he went into the roundabout (from which there is only left and right exits) in the left lane as if he was going left to join the northbound M50 but he continued all the way around and turned right. Fortunately I took the defensive attitude that you can't assume anything with Irish drivers so I hung behind and let him on his merry way.

Most people honestly don't know how to tackle a roundabout.

Have to agree with that although I would say a lot is down to laziness too....not all though. A bugbear of mine is bad lane discipline, i.e. your on the inner lane bearing right and they're on the outer lane going straight on (assuming a straight forward 4 entrance/ exit roundabout all at 90 degrees to each other). Despite being on the outer lane they cut right into the inner lane made way through as if to take as straight a line as possible cutting you up. Its lazy and sloppy driving.

The left lane usually moves quicker anyway, and if you have a hesitant driver at the head of the queue in the right lane, its often very tempting to slide into the left side and get away quicker.

Likewise, if you have a hesitant or frightened driver in the left, its sometimes easier to get into the right lane, go all the way round and still get out in front of the queue and go off at 9 o'clock.

Against the rules, but its very frustrating sitting watching as the car at the front refuses to take opportunity after opportunity to pull onto the roundabout.

How do you know he was Irish?

Not that I'm condoning flouting the rules of the road on a public forum but only do them kinda things if you can pull them off, not cut anybody up etc. See too many pulling them kind of stunts only to seriously p!ss somebody off at best or worse still almost cause an accident.

Is there anywhere that specifically states this is against the rules?

Perhaps there isn't, but it does load up the roundabout unnecessarily.
