    Hi,

    I have a 2006 BMW 523i. E 60. Automatic Saloon.

Can anyone recommend a battery for this?
    And rough costs.

I went on to micks garage and there is only 1 option for a battery and it costs 370 Euro, seems expensive...........or are the batteries in these cars special or something?

Very expensive. I was looking up batteries for e39 525i and they are about 100 Euro. I see the one you mean on micks garage alright, there are some on halfords website for in around 100 for the e60 but it says not suitable for cars equipped with stop/start technology, maybe this is the problem, does your e60 have stop/start?

I wouldn't have thought so. If it doesn't, check out halfords, or better yet, your local motor factors who may be more knowledgeable

It's nothing really to do with stop/start. Any BMW which has an iDrive including the E60 has Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) which controls how the battery is charged. When you replace the battery you will need to have the new battery coded by someone with BMW coding software otherwise the battery will not charge correctly and you will shorten it's lifespan and possibly cause numerous electrical related gremlins. These type of batteries tend to be a bit on the expensive side too.

I can't wait for the day they develop a car where you can just buy a new batter in a motor factors for circa €80, put it in the car and start it. That would be amazing technology.
