Ford Mondeo 2008 petrol - Battery Light

About a week ago was driving about ten minutes in my Ford Mondeo petrol 2008 1.6) when the battery light came on. After getting petrol and restarting the car, light had gone out but when about 50 km later it reappeared and stayed on. Managed to make it to my destination. Started car, again and light was out. Drove about ten minutes and light comes on. This time I took a chance as I had a ways to go to get home and sure enough the dash lights started coming on after about 20kilometres and I had to pull the car over. Would not restart. Dead. Got towed to a garage and they diagnosed the battery needed replacing which it was with a (silver calcium Exide economy type)The mechanic tested alternator outputs etc, put on lights left running, and all seemed well. He also did mention replacing a fuse also but I dont know which one. This evening after about 1000 km of no problems (motorway commuting this week) the battery light came back on out of the blue. I had to nurse the car home by pulling over, turning off, and restarting. The light goes out for a few kilometres and then comes on again. Is it a dying alternator or something else? I have to get it looked at again tomorrow.

Most likely a dying alternator. Obviously connections need checking.

Yes, got the alternator replaced voltage output poor. Its a reconditioned Ford one so hopefully get another couple years out of that.
