Hopeless teacher??

Hi anyone here who studies/studied home ec for leaving cert? I'm in 5th year and our teacher is hopeless..we've done like 4 chapters this year and that's all. I'm trying to do some myself at home but I can't get the information to sink in..any advice on how I should approach it? Thanks x
