    Hi

When can you be fined for the motor tax being out?

    Tax expired end February 2017

Do I have all of march to tax it or can I be fined anytime in march?

    Thanks

    Hi

When can you be fined for the motor tax being out?

    [...]

One fussy traffic warden and you can be fined for no tax disc displayed even today.

Got back to my car today in Galway public carpark and had a fine for not displayin tax disc even though my car was taxed since Tuesday and I had the printout of the payment receipt on the window with a note saying tax Disc in the post.

Feeling very peed off right now. Sent in an appeal to the council but not holding my breath. The warden was just being a complete pr**k when he can clearly see I've be paid my tax.

Sorry Buddy but the fine was not for not having your tax paid it was for non-display, you know when your tax is due and you have plenty of time to organise a new tax disc but I agree with you, an element of common sense should be applied

Sorry but anyone can fake a payment receipt, plus you had plenty of notice that the tax was about to expire.

Try an appeal to the place where the fine is due (local council I assume) and they might relent.

I paid up and have a screenshot and note while I'm waiting for disc

Can they flag this as you drive by an unmarked car or does it have to be a visual check for a few days out?

The offence is "non display" . You can still be done!

You have march to renew but technically you can get fined for non display during march.

You can tax from March during March for 3/6/12 months without paying a month of arrears vs taxing in April and paying 3/6/12 months plus one months arrears. It's still out though.

    That was already discussed

I was asking can they flag it as you drive by when it's just out or would it have to be a check point type stop

Put few cent extra per litre on fuel, problem solved. Everyone has their tax paid and the savings in administration costs would be huge. Would save endless hours of paper work for Guards, and free up the courts.
What a country we live in.

Just got a letter from Galway council, my fine has been cancelled after I sent them an email with the printout on my dash next to the fine and a copy of the payment receipt. At least someone there uses common sense.

I've learned my lesson.. Next time I'll pay the extra €6 and park in the multi-storey away from the wardens. Haha

Or maybe pay the car tax before it goes overdue;)

Can't wait for Ireland to play "catch up" with the UK so we wont have to display any unsightly pieces of paper in our windows  awhich will put an end to traffic wardens and that stupid non "display" fine

Still think the beat way to go is put extra tax on fuel, the more you drive the more rd tax you pay. Get rid of al the crap about the size of your engine etc...
