Where's the junk mail gone?

18 months ago hardly a day passed without something unsolicited landing on the hall mat from charities, fly by night guttering "experts" and SKY or Virgin but now even the postman isn't dumping flyers in with the regular post and an Post get paid for doing that. Foreign lads used to do a lot of this work, probably cash in hand so they are now poorer as well. It's a disaster! :pac:

Anyone else noticed a drop off in junk? Does it actually indicate a recovering economy?

An post seem to produce an impressive amount of it themselves.

I am persecuted by junk mails from local milfs and their club that they want me to join. I would swear that someone has signed me up to their mail list as a 'joke'.

It's actually because the marketing services industry, which is typically responsible for distributing this sort of stuff, is now on the lookout for e-mail addresses. Costs them next to nothing to reach a far wider (and better targeted) audience to send e-mails compared to physical post

Interesting. I had not thought but have not seen any since I moved here. The cottage was empty some while so maybe that is why ?

It used to come in handy for lighting the fire ;)

    Plenty of menus still appearing

Menus seem to be the norm nowadays deffo. Maybe the postal junk has been confined to the past? Surely its less of an outlay sending an email this days or paying for banner adds than having some lad get paid to deliver them only to fire them into a skip and keep the shoe leather in good shape

I normally only pick it up when I dump recycling, grab it at the door and let it pile up, until then, otherwise never look at it. They always ignored the "no junk mail" stuff, and I had removed it as it was an eye soar. But went to grab it to do recycling today, which is once every 2 weeks, and there was 3 things there, normally I get about 3 a day. I definitely noticed a major drop off, very curious to know why. I don't want to reveal my location, but maybe its a location based development, the guy who does it was sick or the business went bust or some such, I don't believe the mail man does it, as I understand it, "marketing businesses" or some such do it.

Still getting tonnes, despite 2 "No Junk Mail" signs.

As we are rural and only ever got junk mail via An Post, the volume has not reduced at all. There's something every day there's post.

The only junk mail I get (small town) is for Chinese and Indian restaurants 10 miles away and some lad named Jesus who's apparently a fantastic fellow, he seems to be some sort of handy man who helps you out with stuff when you're stuck. I rang the number and told them I needed a hand painting my fence but apparently he was out on call that day.

I heard he does a handy trick with any water you might have around.

Yeah it's the case here anyway, I've noticed a drop off in what is landing in the door but my seldom used e-mail seems to be picking up speed spam wise.

hardly much reduction,an post usually leave few of their own but at least they deliver that with important mail, takeaways get some business id imagine to pay off for them leaflets, but for most businesses its money drain, worse is when companies now hound you to switch over electricity, gas, net with cold calls, now thats a major pain.
As for spam i welcome it ,every email now has this handy filter where you block once and never see it again or just spam box for mail go to die folder.

I live in Dublin City Centre. I get so many leaflets for crappy takeaways.

My biggest gripe is that they nearly always leave my gate open on their way out of my garden.

    Interesting point op.
Never really noticed it but where I live it wouldn't be as bad as it once was. Still get a lot of menus as others say and still get a bit of junk mail. But not as bad I guess.

Maybe most places just copped on that everyone was instantly binning them.

Not had any in years. Just asked our regular postman not to deliver anything that isn't address to someone he knows lives at the house problem solved, and a decent tip at Christmas probably helps.

    Regularly get:

Junk food menus..large franchises and local chippers,
Some slimy estate agent trying to get us to flog the gaff,
Free newpapers - about 4 articles then 10 pages of ads for ****e.

I miss getting the Alive paper, was always great for a good laugh.

I still get a fair few through AnPost, mostly Centra/Supervalu, Sky, Specsavers and AnPost's own services like mobile, FX, etc.

Rare times I'll get the random ones delivered by a person with a satchel for local takeaways.
