Haven't been myself, losing everything I was

I really haven't been feeling myself recently. I've struggled with eating for about a year and a half and the constant worry about calories is taking a mental toll on me. I have no desire to get up in the morning and go to college. My grades are slipping and I have no motivation to study for exams, where as in secondary school I got all A's in my leaving cert, so it isn't that I can't achieve good marks, my mind just feels constantly foggy and full. I've been crying more. I'm seeing a boy who I want to end things with because it isn't working but I like him too much to let go of him and it's also bothering me a lot. I feel very low after we sleep together especially, I don't know why that is. I don't have any desire to hurt myself although sometimes I randomly have thoughts about being dead but I'd never act on them. I don't really know why my life has gone this way but it's getting harder and harder to function, I can't relate to anyone anymore and make strong connections with friends. I feel disconnected from everything at the moment. Has anyone experienced this, is it a normal part of growing up? I don't know whether to ride it out or get help.

    I'm 20 in university.

    HI OP

I'm glad you reached out on boards, because it shows you acknowledge you could use a little help/advice. I recommend you go to see a student advisor in your college and discuss the issues you are having.

I wouldn't say its normal, either advice as above or go to the college GP if the college has one or possibly go to your own GP

Please go and get help. If counting calories is taking over your life like that, then you need medical help. Please go and see your GP to start.

Please speak to a family member/friend and a GP. Also if your eating has become disordered - look at bodywhys.ie

If you are not eating properly it has a huge knock-on effect on the rest of your life, your physical and mental health included. Your body and brain cannot function if not given adequate fuel.

Seek help and take care of yourself.
