Just was wondering whether theres a cartel, gentleman's agreement or such that dictates this? Anyone know?

It'a well organised cartel. You want a begging spot on a high footfall bridge - you gotta pay the man.

(At least that is what I was told by a beggar in burger king one night)

If I was genuinely homeless then that would be the last place I would want to sit all day. The wind that comes down the liffey on a cold day is horrendous.

I always thought it'd be a king of the hill, battle royale type situation where the hardiest hobo gets the best spot.

If you want the cash, you gotta go out there and earn it. Get the best turf but fully in the knowledge that if you take a break, there will be a vulture ready to strike. These guys have my entrepreneurial respect.

The rest of the homeless are hiding in case Glen Hansard starts singing again.

Aye the blend of command economy (dole) and free market economics (putting in the hours) is really relegating those Chinese lads to the ha'penny place*.

    *Not near Ha'penny Bridge.
