I noticed that the old football pitches / grazing area opposite Williamstown Golf Club has recently been sold and the area cleared of ditches. The traveller's horses are now grazing in an adjacent field.

Does anyone know what is going in there?

They have cleared from the "travellers road" across to the Airport road - 32 acres I think so it's quite a large site, been wondering what's going in there myself as if it's houses the exit will need to be by linking on to the Airport road rather than the start of the Williamstown road ideally.

An exit onto the ORR itself by using the travellers short road would be both dangerous for traffic on the ORR and annoying if residents have to go to the next roundabout before being able to go back west where so many people work/WIT

Saw that alright got me thinking. Forgot there was actually planning permission gained for that site a while ago. Not sure if they are still valid now but interesting though. Would say if anything is starting the top one is the most likely. Also, remember there was an attempt by the developer to get the zoning for the site changed so a shopping centre could be built. Thank god that never happened.

Both applications have been granted with conditions and have had expiry extended to mid 2018. There's a lot there though can't see it all being built.

A shopping centre within a kilometre of Williamstown? and 1.5 of Ardkeen? Of course, that makes perfect sense! Christ on a bike.....

edit - just looked at the submission - that is utterly mad. a DIY shed/garden centre, 12 screen cinema
Site infrastructure, including the road network to serve subsequent phases.

Ridiculous ambition and white elephant in waiting.

Seems like long time ago, different times, looking back now it's ridiculous it got permission, couldn't really see place being suitable for anything but housing.
Add...says residential on big sign saying sold.

Seems that is what is planned
The lands are accessed from an existing entrance on the Outer Ring Road with access through Phase One of the development to the R708 Airport Road provided for emergency vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists only

if you solocheck "edward holdings" you will find that the same owners of that company also owned orst enterprises!! this was sold on so the planning permissions in the thread are not whats going to be built there! my money is on affordable housing.
