Fairly play to anyone that does it, I'm not aware of any organisations that run such programs in Ireland, but there probably is.
It could make a big difference in some kids life.

Genuinely, if you're only half-thinking about doing it, I wouldn't recommend it. I was involved with it for a while and it's very worthwhile for all involved. Training is provided and it can be a good idea if you're planning on a career in social care at some stage.

Nobody "hounds" you, but they're there to provide support and you're expected to give regular updates on how things are going, any issues or concerns you may have, etc.

The process goes from making contact with them and they'll be able to tell you where the nearest program is running, and once you apply, you're garda vetted, trained, interviewed, and then they try to match you with a child. I presume you're a girl so you'd be matched with a girl.

You'd meet up then for an hour a week initially, and then as time goes on you'd be in more regular contact and well, during that time you and the child could come up with a list of activities you could do together!

I know people who do something similar with underage refugees who have no family. It's a nice idea but can be a bit tough depending on what your buddy is going/ has gone through. Activities are just whatever people happen to be interested in, walks, sports, cinema, etc
