getting a sky i/o link to work with hd box and magic eye help?

I hooked up an i/o link to a sky hd box and the old sd box was left in situ so I used rf1 out on that to aerial in on the i/o link, and turned on the power bit. Left RF at 68 and it was 21 on old sd box. Now house has additional 2 tv's one in kitchen and one in bedroom. I can tune in channels ok but.. 1. there is intermittent interference ie moving horizontal line lines across screen on both TV's and 2 the magic eye wont work on new hd box. Pic quality is good.

However, whoever fitted the original system must have put some kind of link in loft as there is only one lead from RF out and they used a joiner from the sd box, ie the connector on the coax would not plug into rf2 without the joiner. I tried the i/o link direct to new box and magic eye would not work.

I cant get access to loft but wondered, 1, what is causing the interference, it looked like an electrical pulse and 2 is there a better version of i/o link that will allow magic eye to pass through?

An easy peasy little job was not so easy after all!!

    help

hi what make is the i/o link?
some of them have to have an external 12 volt fitted to the i/o link to work in case there is a link amplifier in the loft
if you have two sky boxes it should be possible to turn on the dc supply on the old box and connect it to the lead going to the loft and check the reception in the other room,
the older receivers generally supply more current to power remote amps/eyes when compared to the i/o links
    hope this helps

Thank you. That's an idea. To get the i/o link working I have to set the voltage so if I then plug the feed from the sky hd box that into aerial in on old sky box and power up old box rf2 as well, am I sending too much power to magic eye?? And would the magic eye work on both boxes?? I cant see it myself as too much in the way.

    I cant get into loft.

the make is slx. I was told there was no magic eye when I ordered it!!!

    any ideas on the interference?

in order for a tri-link to work with two tvs you will need either a self-powered bi directional amplifier in the attic or alternatively you will need a triax manufactured tri-link unit with a psu that you plug in beside the sky box. An old sky box would have generated enough voltage to run a 2 or 4 way amp itself.

An Slx branded i/o link is not powerful enough to run a 2 split tv system on its own...Horizontal lines solution best to change the frequency away from 68....if original is on 21 make second box 25 and return the tvs.

Thanks for that, that unit is a bit more than my slx 10 euro inc p&p!!

would this gizmo work with the magic eye for the hd box only and allow the pic from the second box as well.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Triax-Output-Power-Supply-included/dp/B00KH4Z1EO/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1488275964&sr=1-4&keywords=triax+tri-link+kit

I tried ch48 on second tv but it was very grainy. I may suggest they get a pro to get it set up but installer was quoting 50 euro and seemed a lot. I know why now. Nice of sky to drop the rf outs. I have old boxes so wont be changing any time soon.

You don't need a tri-link you need as I already suggested earlier there are two solutions to your problem

The amazon link is to the Triax IO "tri-link" unit with a psu which you suggested previously and not the traditional Triax trilink kit we're all familiar with. Web address probably causing the confusion - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Triax-Output-Power-Supply-included/dp/B00KH4Z1EO/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1488275964&sr=1-4&keywords=triax+tri-link+kit

Apologies I was rushing when reading earlier yes that link is what is needed if u need more than one TV..PSU plugs in behind main TV beside the sky box

Sorry to regurgitate an old thread, I ordered one of these triax links off amazon, but didn't got the the PSU unit with it. If I am only using the eye on one TV is the additional voltage still required. Or will the link work without any additional power?

Your only need a psu when u are using more than one TV so in your case just the I/o link and a magic eye is all that is required

Didn't work unfortunately. I plugged the sky link directly into output from tri-link to eliminate any issue with connections going through the attic and the led on the magic eye still didn't light.

You need to insert the I/o link into the sky box and then enable the rf2 power.
Press services goto third box on the right name slips my mind at moment maybe settings
Press 01select sometimes I find 001 select works better
Goto RF on the bar and enable the rf power. And set the Freq away from ant saorview Freq in ur area. Press green to save

If it doesn't power up then unplug box with everything in place and it should power up on reboot
