Upgrading the Vodafone fibre modem

I have a HG658c that Vodafone sent me several years ago. Looking to upgrade to a dual band modem router. The Netgear D7000 looks like an option, but I just want to confirm that it is compatible. I did notice a compatibility list on a similar Eir thread. It mentioned something called OpenEir. I've also seen mention of vectoring and Vodafone seem to give no help with that or any settings to anyone that asks.

You know where to look, that thread you mentioned.

Vodafone do have the 659b (Dual Band) but seem to mainly give it to Lightspeed (SIRO) based customers. Maybe ask for a free upgrade from Loyalty first.

I saw some threads previously, then lost them. Now I've found them again. This thread lists the D7000 as a modem/router that supports vectoring.

Question: when reference is made to Open Eir, is that the network that Vodafone and other carriers lease from Eir?

eir and open eir are trading names of eircom Limited.

eir is the retail part of the company that deals with the consumer and open-eir are the wholesale part the company that own the network/infrastructure, poles/wires etc. and sell to the retailers such as eir, Vodafone etc.

Curious now about vectoring. Is it something that only Vodafone use or do both Eir and Vodafone and maybe others use it, perhaps because it's a feature of Open Eir?

Part of the open-eir infrastructure which extends FTTC availability from 1.5km to 2km and increases the available speed for those less than 1.5km.

Thanks. I'm pulling the trigger in the next day or two on an Intel NUC barebones and some other kit to fit in it from Amazon. I'll add a D7000 to the order and see how I get on.

Only do so if you don't want the use of Vodafones landline product.

You mean the phone? No, I'm fibre broadband only with Vodafone for a number of years now.

Just an update on this. Got the D7000 and it has replaced the HG658c. Working perfectly. The setup wasn't exactly as described on other threads on here. It didn't give me a chance to choose Vodafone as the provider, just Eircom for Ireland or Other. I have to use a username and password to connect, which I got from somewhere (not Vodafone).

ED E. Can you explain the "Only do so if you don't want the use of Vodafones landline product." please. Was looking at getting a Netgear modem as the Vodafone wifi doesn't span our modest house, but we also have a Vodafone landline, and monitored alarm if that matters also?
