How many masses do you need to attend to say you've eaten a "full" Jesus?

There are some people who still believe in God and are doing no harm in doing that. Leave them be. I personally don't have faith in God but I'm not going to begrudge anyone if they still do.

The good people of Glenamady can get on with their busy lives this Ash Wednesday.

Have you been to Glenamaddy? Not the fastest pace of life. Peaceful though.

Believe in God all you like, but don't support an organisation that covers up child abuse!

    I don't know.

    Is this a joke?

I have no faith in God as I pointed out but that doesn't mean I support the Church for what they did years ago. There are people who may still believe in God but don't attend church choosing to use their faith in their own time.

    Well, yes and no.

Transubstantiation is the belief that you're ACTUALLY eating the flesh of god. So, I was wondering did someone do the math.

I'm terrible at jokes. Both giving and receiving. It's my curse.

Ok but it's the Catholic idiots who are rubbing dirt on people's heads, which is what the thread is about!

Not quite. The wearing of ashes as a mark of your Christianity is not support for what an organisation did.

Great idea fair play to that church.

You're allowing a Catholic priest to rub it on your head! Anyway, I realise there's no point arguing with people on this subject, we should have done away with this religious nonsense years ago in Ireland.

And is big tom one of the priests.:D

I think its a good idea if that's what the folks around there want, good luck to them.

The Catholic Church does not have it easy. They did a lot of ****ed up things. People are moaning that they are stuck in the past and need to be more modern. They open up a drive-thru for Ash Wednesday and people are still trashing it. Some people will never be happy with the church

Wrong again, This is what its about.

A Co. Galway church will ‘move to the pace of modern life’ this Lent with a ‘drive-thru’ Ash Wednesday service and Lenten Petition box.

Following discussions between PP Fr Paddy Mooney and the pastoral council of Glenamady church on how best to prepare for the Lenten season, it was recognised that something of a novel approach might work best for people on the go who, while eager to keep up with the life of their church, remain under modern time constraints and pressures.

“We looked at the situation on the ground,” Fr Paddy told this newspaper. “People and families are on the move all the time.”

Thus the idea of the ‘drive-thru’ Ash Wednesday service was born, made viable by the driveway design of Glenamady church which will allow those availing of the service to progress in one gate and out another – from 8am to 9.30am on March 1.

    Prayer

“It’s about meeting people where they are,” Fr Paddy explained, adding that this was also the thinking behind the Lenten Petition box, which will stand in the church grounds and allow for people to pull in and submit prayer requests throughout Lent.

“We’re just putting [the initiative] in front of people to help them think of Lent, as a reminder of it,” Fr Paddy said, adding that he was confident that in Glenamady, “a great parish with very active people always thinking of new things for the church”, the novel Lenten ideas will be warmly received.

Sad stuff. Trying desperately to make rubbish about wearing ashes as a sign of being sorry for imaginary sins against an imaginary god relevant. It's pure Craggy Island stuff. Cringeworthy.

Glenamaddy is hardly Downtown Manhattan. Would people there really be that rushed? Sounds like a gimmick to garner media attention to me.

I for one think it's a great idea.

I also think drive-thru ceremonies in general would be a great idea. Imagine rolling up in your car beside a big microphone with a menu and turning to the wife and kids and saying "What do ye want?" then turning to the mic and saying "I'll have a christening, two first holy communions and a confirmation please." You then drive up to a window where a bunch of priests (each specialising in one particular ceremony) are standing there giving you and your family your (holy) order.

The church needs to take what makes McDonalds great and apply it to its own ideals.

I would be glad of this; cannot attend mass etc as immune system is down.

We have the freedom here in Ireland to worship and to follow our faith which is banned in so many countries .

My first year in Ireland I went to Knock on Ash Wednesday. It was an amazing introduction to Ireland and to the Catholic faith..... the depth of faith there that day. ..... went back a few times in my own journey. Too far for me to get there this year sadly... or maybe not... aa routes!

    THANK YOU for that thought...

Will nonetheless honour the day here. In deep silence and prayer in my hermitage. A solemn and deeply meaningful day that we need.

In faith with all of faith. We are one.

Yes, we get it - you don't believe in the church.

But for those who do, how is this a bad thing? The church is trying to move to meet the needs of its parishioners, and it doesn't impact the lives of anybody else. I'm not seeing the issue here

This is not the first of such initiatives.

    See

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/this-clare-priest-offered-confession-in-the-middle-of-a-busy-shopping-centre-370435.html

and if you google "confession shopping centre" there are many more.

It was not just about confession but being there to listen to people. So much needed.

The Glenamaddy plan is the same.
