Pump erratic

Hello forum, I'm new here. I don't know if anybody could give me a bit of advice, if so, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 30kw Green stove with a back boiler. It heats 17 radiators. The system was originally oil-fired and had a two zone thermostat system in place. When the stove was installed, the electric valves on the two pipes coming off the cylinder were removed and the red pressure vessel was taken out. I have two problems. The first is that the radiators don't heat equally. I read another post dealing with this and I tried to balance the rads in the way it was described, but to no avail. A couple of days later the rads were back to where they were originally, more or less. One rad has the flow valve completely opened and still receives no heat.
The second problem concerns the pump. I have the thermostat set at 60 degrees. When the fuel has cooled and I add more turf/coal the pump doesn't kick in and the water boils in the tank behind the stove. The only way I can get it to start again is by running off a good bit of hot water. I am flummoxed.
