was my supervisor out of order to say that to me in front of others?
What is the "HR policy" on this.

Raise it with HR, by asking for a meeting if this facility is available.

I am erring on the side caution.

It also depends on this supervisor's relationship with management, firstly, and to a lesser degree HR.

Try and get a refree OP, who does'nt know the supervisor and who is not connected to you in any way in the company.

You're still on the same employment, I don't see why it can't be used against you.

I'm sure in your contract it'll specify how long warnings stay on your record. Regardless I don't think there is much you can do.
