    1) I have seen numerous figures as to the average water usage per household, can you confirm where I can find the correct information?

    Consumption averages differ depending on what purpose they are being used for and on what is included in the figures is solely occupied homes; a mix of occupied and non-occupied homes; those homes with leaks; homes without leaks; all metered homes; a mix of metered and non-metered homes; homes with multiple of single occupancy etc.

    The Consumption Reports provided to the Comission for Energy Regulation, and which are available on the Irish Water website, provide the most up-to-date and accurate breakdown of water usage. Please click here for more.

    2) Are landlords responsible for their tenants unpaid water bills after they have moved out and do you have to pay a disconnection/reconnection fee in the event of a tenant not paying?

    If the tenants of a property have registered their details with Irish Water, they are responsible for any bills owed for the period of time they lived at the property. We would advise that tenants contact us up to 10 days prior to their moving date so that we can update all details accordingly.

    As the landlord of a domestic property, you are obliged to contact Irish Water and provide the names of your tenants and the start date of the agreement you have with your tenants, to ensure that you are not held liable for water charges should your tenants remain unregistered with us.

    There are no disconnection/reconnection fees in the event of a tenant moving out.

    3) I am leaving the country and would like to close my Irish Water account.

    If you would like to send your query by PM, with the following details, we will be more than happy to help you:

    - Name;
    - Address;
    - Contact Number; and
    - Confirmation that you are the account holder.

    As soon as we receive these details, we will look into your query straight away.

    4) I made a complaint to the Council about a loose manhole cover on a nearby road but nothing has been done. Can you help?

    In order for us to investigate this for you, please send us the following details via PM:

    - Name;
    - Location of the incident; and
    - Your contact number.

    5) Is there a maximum upper limit or threshold for Kerosene in water supply?

    There is no limit for Kerosene in water supply. However, the below parameters would be frequently tested in regulatory drinking water audit samples on public supplies. These parameters as specified in the regulations are used as the main indicators of any hydrocarbon based fuel contamination.

    Benzene: 1.0 ug/l
    Benzo(a)pyrene: 0.010 ug/l
    PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) Total: 0.10 ug/l
