Any outstanding beers I should check out. I'm heading down tomorrow.
Also what's the deal with tokens this year, price wise? I saw online that samples were going for 1 token

    Sample €1
    Half pint €3
    Pint €6

Not sure how much is in a sample though.

It varies. Less if you whine about it, probably.

Best beer I had yesterday was Trouble's Ambush 2.0. It's very like the first version. Rascal's 13 Seconds porter on cask is superb too.

Bit silly charging for a sample. I like to try my beers before committing to a pint/half. So it'll end up being €7 for a pint?
Samples were gladly handed out previous years

Just looked and tickets for tomorrow are sold out before I got a chance to pick any up :(

Looks like I won't be going this year

I've heard Irish brewers complaining for years about festival-goers who'll sample along the bar and then never buy anything. It was going to end sooner or later, and here it is.

    Beers I tried:

Eight Degrees sour and new ipa were both good
White Hag barrel aged black boar wasn't great. Their collaboration with Kinnegar was very nice, a coffee BA nitro stout. The cider/golden ale blend with MacIvors was grand.
Wasn't a fan of lough gill imperial stout or macadamia brown ale

Brewdog didn't have anything particularly exciting and anything barrel aged is 6 tickets for the most part.

It's a pity Irish brewers can't think outside of the box and consider the possibility of "free samples... if you buy a pint..."

Is there any decent grub options to go along with the beers?
And do you have to pay for everything in tokens or is cash accepted at all?

I hope that if you're not taking the piss and/or go on to buy the pint you wouldn't be charged for the sample. Won't be there til tomorrow to see if I'm guessing right.

At other festivals, sample-freeness has clearly varied with the means of the exhibitor. Bushmills brought an unasked for large "sample" of 21 over to my table after I'd been talking to them and bought a 12 and the Diageo stand were basically throwing samples at me without being asked; but smaller places clearly can't afford that and I'd hope people don't expect it.

To be clear - a lot of brewers (ie most of the ones I've spoken to about it) grumble about the (tiny minority of) people who take the p*ss on free samples, while recognising it is an important part of any festival experience.

I wouldn't be a fan of charging for a sample.

Not all are charging for samples, only a select few

Yeah, they really are super seriously sold out for Saturday. I reckon if you show up late, after the match, you miiight have a chance of getting in, but the folks inside seem to reckon it'll be jammers.

If I recall correctly last year, they let too many people in at the door and they had to refuse some people who already had tickets

Just turned up hoping to get tickets at the door. Nothing available so now off to do a craft beer tour of dublin. Anyone trying to shift 2 tickets send me a pm.

Had great craic there last night.
Wasn't charged for any samples and most half pints I got were more two thirds.
    It'll be hopping tonight.

Went on Friday after work and really enjoyed it, didn't have a bad beer all night and highlights of beers I tasted were Kinnegar - Big Bunny, Trouble - Ambush 2.0 and Kinnegar/White Hag - The Hare and the Hag. Also thought the half pint pours were generally very generous, my head wasn't thanking me for them quite as much on Saturday morning :o.

Went on Friday, have to say it seemed much better this time around, maybe due to the lighting not being as bright as previous years, and the layout was quite good with food stands being pretty much at the back of the room, and the Altech bar not being as massive as previous years...

I bought €30 in tokens, which should have been 5 pints, but some of the stands gave 3/4 of a pint pretty much so was great!

Tried amongst others, Dublin Blonde, Sullivans Red, Rascals Strawberry Vanilla Milkshake IPA, great choices from a lot of great brewers...

I bought the tickets for 3, and got paid back the cost in tokens. After I'd already bought my own tokens. Add the generous pours to that and I'm still not quite right.
