From the pax's video it looks like the wheel was back in the sponson, not locked out?

There is talk of this in the FR24 thread. It was reported by a poster there that the gear problem was a known issue before the approach, and that a mayday was issued.

If that is the case, in what were undoubtedly difficult conditions, the flight crew can only be said to have nailed the landing.

Over on AVH Simon has posted up a couple of videos. One looks like they caught a gust on short finals and the gear hit hard... f there was already a problem, that wouldn't have helped!!

I'm not an expert on AMS ops, but they landed on 22 which I don't believe is used much, if ever. That to me says they were aware of a potential collapse and put her down somewhere that wont effect operations, wind was also 210 at the time, which was almost certainly considered.

Yeah, from this angle looks like that right landing gear hit the runway hard.

I was listening to Amsterdam tower on LiveATC at the time it occurred, ops were switched to RWY27 for arrivals, so the event didn't cause much disruption.

AFAIK the mayday was only issued after landing gear collapse and that runway was in use, other planes had to abort landing and line up for another runway

    Weird looking plane
Who made it. Looked so dated

DeHavilland Canada (now Bombardier) Dash 8 Q400. 10.3 years old (Nov 2006) so not an old machine by any means. It's a very capable aircraft.

I always hear different to what's written in the video, eg, I heard "Mayday Mayday, Broken landing gear" as opposed to "we've broken the landing gear", and I heard "The Flybe's on one wing" not "The Flybe's on runway"

Is this due to a rush by the people making the video or am I just not hearing it properly?

What kind of testing / repair would that aircraft need before going back into service?
I saw the passenger video showing the propellor blades scraping the ground, so is that repair, replace the prop blades and gear box?

Sounds to me like they called mayday when it collapsed on landing but then called it again when there was smoke in the cabin. I doubt they would have continued their approach if they knew there was a problem with the gear.

I think it was rushed ... Don't have much issue with the landing gear translation ... I think the runway translation was just misheard by the guy Luckily on runway and on one wing were both applicable :D

Not the first time landing gear has collapsed on this type, though to be fair it does appear to have touched down hard, possibly due to wind shear/crosswind gust in the flare.

The Dash 8 is a very common regional aircraft - hardly dated at all. Over 1,000 have been built and it is still in production.

Flybe have 57 of the type in the fleet - they are a multiple daily visitor to Dublin.
