Getting tyres fitted, south Dublin

I got 4 new tyres at cost thanks to a mate in the business, they are sitting in the hall..

He recommended a guy to fit them (mobile service) so I rang him and he said €100 to fit and balance 4 of them. 235/40 R18 on alloys.

Is that reasonable or is he pushing it?

Any other options? I'm in south Dublin.

Check the eiretyres website for recommended fitters. Note that some fitters don't know they're on the eiretyres list!

€25 a tyre seems a lot. The most I'd pay is €15, and even at that I'd be looking for the 4 for €50.

You need to find someone who isn't a muppet and will take care with your wheels too.

    Thanks Colm.

I know you cant post names here but if anyone has had good experience with fitters in Rathfarnham / Sandyford area, PM would be appreciated.

That's a bit expensive but considering he is mobile and has to drive to you which costs him both time and fuel I can see how it would have to be worth his while.

It would probably be a bit cheaper for you to go to a tyre centre and get them to fit them. Stay away from tyre retailer like Fast Fit or Tyre Stop as they won't fit tyres you didn't buy from them. €50/€60 to fit and balance 4 new tyres along with disposal of the old ones would be reasonable imo.

Thanks guys, yeah it's probably a premium for the mobile service alright.

I'll ring around a few of the fitters on eiretyres.

In short, fitting and balancing 4 tyres, is a 30 minute jobs for one person (who had to spend few days training) requiring equipment worth no more than €3k.

If you think it's worth €100 then go for it.

    I don't think it is.

€30 tops in my opinion, but unfortunately you'll struggle to find it at that price, as just people are dumb enough to pay more so garages exploit that.

I've a set of tyres awaiting fitting.

I don't expect to pay more than €50 for all four, including balancing.

€30 for 4 tyres, I wouldn't waste my time getting out of bed as a fitter. Perfect definition of better off on benefits.

€15 a corner would be about right.

Thanks for all the replies, got them fitted today for €15/corner. Happy with that.

Plenty of garages around, which charge €50 per hour labour and they don't consider it waste of time or better off on benefits.

If they can make it fixing cars for €50 per hour and still make profit, surely €30 for fitting and balancing 4 tyres which takes 30 minutes, is even better than that.

It took them about 90 mins in the end, not sure why, maybe it was because I stood there watching then and had already said I am very fond of my scratch-free rims.

Can't fault them in the end and happy with the service so may as well give them a plug. Sandyford tyres, behind the Maxol Garage.

Noooo, I lost out to my closest rival :P
glad you got sorted though, I know the lads in there. 90mins is a bit long alright but to be honest I could prob take that time myself with an awkward tyre & wheel when you want to keep scratch free.
