I have a 4 year old golden retriever and suddenly he is scared to come in the house.
He doesnt appear to be sick, eating normally, fine when outside but when we get him in the house he is shaking and looking to get out.
Usually he sleeps inside and would stay in all day if we let him.
Only thing i thought it may be is i made a kitchen cleaner of vinegar and lemon and sprayed to clean kitchen not knowing its a natural repellent for dogs, but I have rewashed everything and he is no difference.
He slept in the garage last night but Im wondering if anyone has any ideas what this could be or what we can do???

Had you a fire alarm go off in the house at any stage recently?
i know in my own house the dog is terrified of it and wont come near the house for ages after it goes off.

No nothing like that has happened. Thanks for reply though.

Has this only just started? Could it possibly be the wind is making strange noises through windows/doors and freaking him out a bit?

Its been 3 days and was only windy here last night so I dont think it is that

Dogs are known to have a sense of smell hundreds of times more sensitive than that of humans. So maybe the vinegar and lemon spray is the problem. Even though you have rewashed the kitchen it might need to be rewashed even more.

Yes maybe. I have been cleaning alot to try and get rid of it. Seems to be drooling as well I have just noticed

Id go to the vet. Drooling is a sign of nausea or pain of some type, and dogs can have behavioural changes when they're not well.

    I'd agree with maggiepip.
Just to satisfy my curiosity... Have you ever used citronella spray to correct any unwanted behaviours with him?

No never used the spray before. He has got nearer to the door...hopefully its just the smell lingering or a noise he is remembering. Thanks for suggestions
