Lost a calf this morning. Was thinking of putting a 3 week old suck calf on her. Would the beastinds sicken him.

Might scour him a bit. I'd take as much off her as I could before putting a calf on her and freeze it for the calving season to come. That is if the cow is anyway sociable at all!

Had a cow that lost a calf last year, to get her to take to the calf, I skinned the dead calf and put it on the foster calf for a day or two. Not a pleasant job but It worked an absolute treat, cow took to the calf really well. on your original question the beasting done the foster calf no harm at all.

Thought you'd be prosecuted for skinning a calf as it should be bvd tested , tagged and sent to the knackery .Wouldn't go down well with non farming folk on here or others from Europe looking in !!!

Nothing wrong with beastings scour it quickly clears up on its own, I've never seen a calf get sick from beastings.

Could still have been BVD tested and the remainder sent to the knackery.

I could be wrong but I don't see the problem.

    Update
Put the strongest of the suck calves under her. Ch bull calf 4 weeks old whos mother died. Started sucking Straight away. She rose her leg a few times but he wont give up. Shes a first calver but very quiet. Hes now known as the bastard calf here. Probably take a few days for her to take to him. Left them together in a pen to get to know each other

Know quite a few lads that do this.
Non farming folk would need to know it's a dead calf and it's being done to make the best of a bad situation. And they could also **** off !!

We do the same here Sako and definitely works perfect.
Agree beestings have no ill effect especially if calf is 3 weeks or older.
