Quick one, does anyone know if im under any legal obligation to have my leap card checked at exiting stations by irish rails revenue protection unit?

Surely if they see me exiting the barriers using the leap card then this is proof enough that ive paid my fare?

The leap card could have someone else's name on it. The capping system on leap cards means it's possible for 2 or more people to share a leap card (assuming both parties never need it at the same time) and get discounts.

Also there's no evidence they saw you. Often there's a barrier left open so you could have walked through that for all they know.

It's also possible that you got on in Bray and tagged on stayed on til town got off in town walked through a barrier free space. Got back on in town and rode the dart back to Bray where you tagged off. Possibly registering as a fare of 0 on the leap card.

Not sure about the legal obligation however I think it's ridiculous to expect the Revenue protection unit to get conclusive evidence evidence that you paid for journey from you being able to tag through the barriers.

GM will jump in and give you detail soon enough but IIRC as long as you're still on IR property the bylaws allow them to stop you.

As above, they can need to validate FTPs, students are students, kids are actually kids etc.

I think its ridiculous to target hard working commuters who travel into the city and have to put up a sub standard service as was the case this morning at pearse st.

I know ive gone off topic here :p

Well I have to say I'm glad I recently changed jobs so I am no longer on the dart line alright.

Yes, you are legally required to if requested anywhere upon the railway. Not only is it a legal obligation, but failure to do so is an offence.

They remain the property of the NTA.
