Avoid DCI cards - 20c surcharge per litre

If anyone has a DCI card or other fuel card, check your pricing.

Their inital rates only last a few months at best and then you go on a rate based on volume.

Current DCI standard rate for low volume users (under 1000 litres a month) is a WHOPPING 1.46 per litre.

We had thought it was €118.9 incl vat but its 118.9 PLUS vat.

Needless to say, the cards have been ripped up and back to credit cards.

Thanks. Closing my account as we speak. Haven't used it ages, you just reminded me.

By any chance did you ring them to complain? I find them quite reasonable to deal with and have always managed to the best core prices from them.

yes, and they reduced the rate but not giving any rebate, but they said it automatically increases after 3-4 months so you have to keep an eye and keep calling every 3-4 months.

so much for their statement of "guaranteed competitive pricing"

Sick of dealing with DCI companies - just checked the Direct Fuels rate, €1.40 per litre of Diesel.

I've rang before and they temporarily reduced my rate but it's not worth the hassle, I'll be cancelling in the morning.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Turns out we are also being screwed by DCI.

I have one of these cards and found it increased rather significantly a few months back.. this would explain it then :(

What's the average rate for diesel at the minute? I've been laid up all week and don't actually check as I use the card.

    Average forecourt price is €1.24 - €1.26.

So DCI is about 20c higher - makes a mockery of their "most competitive fuel price" statement

I rang Emo Oil and their rate is 99.9c ex VAT. So looks like they will be our new supplier.

Guys, Jones oil, on the greenhills rd in Tallaght, just behind Topaz are always cheap. I paid 120.9 today for diesel. Business is good for them and they have just rebuilt it with about 5 extra pumps.

You can see their big tanks going up into the sky behind Topaz. They are next to power city.

There are plenty of reasonably priced places in Dublin, I'm never sure why people insist on paying a premium for bigger brand garages. I've been using D4 Fuels (currently 122.9) and TOP Oil Collinstown (currently 123.9) for the last few years and have no complaints about the quality. They're both open 24/7 as well which is handy. The guys in Top are super friendly and regularly fill the car for me if it's raining.

Jones oil would be Esso distributors and Esso fuel distribution in Dublin port is now controlled by applegreen - in any case all fuel is virtually identical. All Irish fuel comes from either whitegate or Pembroke refineries. Some brands put an additive in for marketing purposes.

That's cool.. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't one of those "too good to be true" type setups :)

May drop in next time I'm over that way so.. are they 9-5 or normal station opening hours?

As above, Jones oil were always Esso distributors. Been around for donkeys years - they have a place in Waterford too. (next door to a topaz)

A lot of distributors have consumer pumps especially diesel. Top in Kildare is another I use.

No fancy shops, usually office hours mon-fri, and staff usually also do other jobs, so the consumer fuel business is an added extra with minimal costs. Obviously being a distributor they have an extra couple of cent to play with too.

Edit - 19 depots and around since early eighties.

Jones oil are gas (gas - gettit?)

As you come to topaz on greenhills, you can see the garage overshadowed by the Jones oil storage tanks. Topaz, the last time I looked, was 129 a litre, while Jones, just behind it, were 120. I say the last time I compared, because I never noticed topaz price today, but I paid 120.9 this morning.

They have about 6 pumps with a green pump at the end. They have done it up nice now and seem to do a big business in home heating oil. The tankers are parked there. No shop, no fancy branding, just pumps and an office.

    Keep it simple.

I assume they all take cards, or is it cash only?

    It's a company called DCI.
    They provide fuel cards.

You pay your fuel bill via direct debt every 2weeks.

Yep. I pay with cash, debit or credit card.

Is that the same crowd as fast fuels?
They're charging me 106 plus. Emo charging 102 but I'm sure a call would get it down to 99.

There really should be a law on that sort of practice- i.e. opt in v's opt out.

Surely "opt-out" would be "not use the DCI card"?

we use applegreens fuel cards. not much chepaer then the pump price alot of the time but dont think ive ever seen the card price higher then the forecourt price. Theres a Top oil up in collinstown and glasnevin inds estate that sell about a cent or 2 cheaper then other stations.

How do you negotiate prices? Is this for businesses only or individuals as well?

Been using them for quite a while now. Never a queue (that might change now!!). At the moment they're the cheapest in the area at 120.9c this afternoon.

If you haven't been there before, you could easily miss the entrance. It's fairly narrow. Drive down the side of Agnelli and the entrance is between Stuarts and Power City.

    They don't sell petrol.

    Cash or plastic.
