Hey guys just new to this site and I just wondering could some 1 help me . I have a John Deere 3040 and the lift is jumpy and the lift only works if u turn the steering and I have a loader on the tractor too and that's the same only works with the steering being turned . The oil gets very hot and I was using a log splitter on the back of it a while ago and after a bit the splitter was getting very slow :( . Got a meachinc to call to me to read the psi on the pump and he said the pump was good .? So if some 1 could lead me in the right direction . Thanks ðŸ‘

Have you cleaned the oil cooler rad? Its a small radiator mounted just in front of the water radiator. If it is fully caked up then is could be causing the oil to overheat and loose its viscosity.

I know I worked on one of these before that had similar problems after a major brake failure. The brake pads basically sheared and bits went all through the back end. They ended up blocking the back end filters and then you had issues like the steering turning on its own and hydraulics being very slow. Is it possible that the logsplitter had very dirty oil in it? First step would be to change the back end filters. If you see an improvement straight away I would run it for a week or two then change the back end oil and the filters again. I'd also try and blow through the cooler rad if you are doing this to make sure that the rad isn't blocked internally.
