Specsavers "anti glare coating" - a non essential upsell?

I was in Specsavers a couple of days back getting my eyes checked and turns out I need reading glasses.

I had a good experience in there overall but when it came to the buying of the frames and lenses I was told that "specsavers anti glare coating" would be needed if I was looking at screens a fair bit - which I do, maybe 3 hours a day

It felt like a non essential upsell to me and it was just to get an extra 45 euros from the customer.

I havent decided on my frames or bought anything yet so I'd love to hear to some feedback on this.

I get anti glare on the main pair of glasses I have every time I get glasses, it's useful for driving, and using screens tbh.

    Well worth the money imo.

Useful if you're wearing your glasses everyday, but for occasional reading I'd say no.

That's what I was thinking. It felt like a car salesman type ploy ;)

I wear my glasses all the time, so I always get the anti glare coating. Money well spent if you wear them like me. For occasional wear or reading glasses, I wouldn't bother as its then a nice to have, rather than a must have.

How long are you spending in front of a screen at home and in work each day?

It's a no from mrs Watson and don't bother with anti scratch either as apparently it's a waste of money

Maybe two hours on the PC and maybe one on the iPad then. It varies from day to day.
