PAYE Confusion

    Hi Taxation Folks!

My wife submitted an IT2 form back in December for us as we got Married in 2015. Last night I noticed that I got a refund from revenue for €xxx amount. My wife then had a look and seen a refund of €xxxx.

I then took a look at my ROS details online and seen that my current employment is not showing although I received my P45 and gave it to my new employer. I'm working there since early last year. I am paying the usual taxes from my wages and received a P60 to recently to reflect that.

So, today I added my current employment to MyAccount on ROS. We received our P21s today and sure enough my current employment is not there, only my previous job for the few months of last year.

Will Revenue now recalculate the refund values as I obviously earned a hell of a lot more than is being account for? Will the recalculation mean an increased refund or will it mean my wife/me owing money we received this week? I'm not bothered if that's the case just would like to know where i stand before I attempt to call them tomorrow.

Cheers Folks (Sorry for the long read)

You can be sure about one thing, dealing with that shower will be a nightmare.

I was overcharged on Local Property Tax due to being put in the wrong band when they forcibly extracted the horrible LPT from my pay and was due a substantial refund. The b******s then went back to 2004 to review my PAYE account that I had already balanced up until 2011 and I ended up getting a pittance of a refund for LPT. Yet, I can only go back 4 years if I want to make any PAYE claims.

This must be the worst country in the world for red tape and peaked cap crackpots. Donald Trump please come here and clear away some of this ****.

It may mean more of a refund or you oweing them money. Depends on how much you earned and how much tax you paid.

I'm sure if you provided us with all the relevant information (p21s and o/s p60) I or someone else could calculate it for you.

Kinda pointless rant. You possess all the information regarding your own taxes so are limited to 4 years for review. Revenue have (with cause) an unlimited right of review and without cause can review upto 6 years.

Thanks Ciaran. I'm a bit apprehensive about putting up the details on a public forum like this but thanks for the offer.
I'm going to ring Revenue today and see what that brings

Well PPS numbers and names can be blacked out if you want. You have understand that tax is a professional area.

The detail in the original post is similar to asking a doctor I coughed do I have asthma.

    Good luck with Revenue.

So just to update... Revenue have come back to me on the myAccount portal and have requested my P60. Once they have applied the figures they are going to recalculate and issue p21s again.

Just a caveat on the employment not being there.

Revenue's speil is that each taxpayer's tax affairs should be looked after by themselves, meaning that it is up to you to ensure that everything is in order. This goes for the registering of employments also. They place the onus on taxpayers to register their employments.

Now, the employer is also obligated to let Revenue know you have started also, so there is a dual obligation here of sorts. When you hand in the P45, the employer is meant to use the bottom of part 3 to notify Revenue of your starting with them

I spoke to Payroll last week and they were very surprised there was an issue. They did suggest they contact Revenue for me but I said to hold off as I'd started the resolution on my side.

It may be down to an innocent error when filling out your info by the employer
