Hi does anyone know of a company producing headlocks for sheep. I want to buy one as I think it will be easier to dose and ear tag sheep as my back gives me trouble.

I was thinking of buying a full sheep race so if anyone knows where I can buy one, let me know. Will also consider a stand alone sheep headlock.

    Thanks

George Mudge shearing supplies do a headlock which is really good , You will should be able to get a look at it online. It closes in on the sheeps neck regardless of the size of the animal.

You want a race not a standalone headlock. You'd do more damage to your back trying to get the sheep into a standalone headlock than the actual tagging or dosing.

There's a few makes of them. Cormac does a good one at the lower end of the price range. I think it's o donnell in tpiperary does a good set up with adjustable width but more pricey.
The sheepeze has a raised platform and I think the headlock but I'm not sure how easy sheep will move through the race and up the ramp.

It depends on your budget, how much you want to keep sheep and what you mean by your back giving trouble.

Yeah thanks J O Farmer. I said a message to O' Donnell and Cormac inquiring about the price of sheep races. Well I like sheep so will be definitely keeping them long term and I have a serious problem with the back.

Depending on what you want to spend get a combi clamp, best tool to save back if a problem

Second that if you have a bad back a combi clamp is only way to go, cost around €2,800 I think. Ritchey do them

They look to be hard managed if you're on your own.....the clamp is open while you go back to push up a sheep

How well do they work with lambs? Can you adjust them in enough to restrain a lamb or hogget

i've seen one in operation, once ewes get used to it they have no bother following one another
