Question about BTEA

    Hello,

I have a question about back to education allowance. I am looking at a hdip course in UCC starting this September, and according to the information here

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/back_to_education/back_to_education_allowance.html

I am, at present, eligible for BTEA. Right now, I am going through a breakup with a person who I was caring for; I have been in receipt of half-rate carer's allowance for the past couple of years, and she was also getting disability allowance with me as a dependent on her claim. I'm in the process of applying for jobseekers allowance, and it says to get BTEA I have to be in receipt of a qualifying payment immediately before the course starts. My question is if I got a job now for 6 months, and then quit the job and went back on Jobseekers Allowance, would this be permissible to apply for BTEA? Also, will they let me combine Jobseekers allowance and carers allowance to make up the qualifying period of 9 months for third level courses. It says...
    Satisfying the qualifying period
You do not have to have been getting your qualifying payment continuously. Periods spent on other qualifying social welfare payments (or getting credits) that are not broken by more than 12 months (52 weeks) can be used to determine whether you satisfy the qualifying period criteria. You must always be getting a qualifying payment immediately before starting your course.
...so does that mean, I could work for 6 months, and still be eligible for BTEA if I am jobseekers at the time the course starts?
If nobody can answer this, could anyone suggest where I might get a definite answer to this? I can't imagine the staff in my local SWLO know anything about this!
