Commencement Notice - Start Date Question

    Hi all,

Searched and read through other similar threads on commencement notices but none of them answered the question I had.

If, for example, we submit a commencement notice today (22nd Feb 2017) with the commencement notice 2 weeks from today (8th Mar 2017), if validated can we start on the 8th of March or is it 2 weeks from date of validation of the submitted commencement notice?

Think it is the former from my reading but would like to make sure.

This is in Kildare but don't think it makes a difference with BCMS.

    Thanks in advance.

You can start on the 8th of March. The commencement notice is you informing the local authority that that's when you plan to commence the works. Unless they have an issue with it or your submission is incorrect, you still plan to start on the 8th of March.

    You start on the 8th.
The LA have 7 days to validate the CN and assuming its ok, then the original start date is also valid.
Dublin usually validate within a day or 2, not so sure about Kildare.

Are you sure the CN was validated?
You can only give 14-28 days notice so depending on the amount of days the system may not have accepted it.

    What's your submission number, 838.......

It's Louth.....I sent them a message through the BCMS system yesterday but no response as yet.

    ***Update***

So I called Building Control Office in Louth CoCo......I was advised that there hasn't been anybody in the office to work Commencement Notice Applications and that they basically only have 2 weeks to invalidate the notice.......I asked what happens now that its 3 weeks since it was submitted and I'm due to commence in just over a week and a nice lady informed me that they have no choice BUT to validate the application.........

Goes without saying but it seems a bit Irish to me..........
