I'm planning on buying a car up North. Does anyone know if Northern dealers will take a Republic of Ireland reg as trade in?

Some will if they have a dealer contact in the South who they can sell it straight too.

    Thanks Bazz.

Car is really only suitable for scrappage - might they take this also, do you think?

Some will but if you can at all though it's much better to sell down here private, your car will typically be worth 20-40% less than the same car in the UK, then on top of that the dealer will knock their commission out of it.

Thanks Atlantic Dawn. Think the car I'm selling is pretty much worthless

Are you planning on financing the new car? I couldn't get finance for a car in the north even though I've worked there all my life. I live in the south so had to arrange my own

Probably will get a credit union loan. So like a cash buyer I guess.

Donegal dealers will certainly take a Republic of Ireland reg as trade in.

Donegal is in the Republic though. I may have misinterpreted but I think OP is referring to buying a car in Northern Ireland.

Yes it's a dealer in Belfast

I see Desmond Motors in Derry (main Ford dealership) is now advertising that they accept RoI trade-ins.

I suppose being so close to the border probably opens up a lot of potential customers for them.

Is it worthless? If it has 6months NCT and someone buys it, taxes it and insures it they can use it as a scrappage car in 6 months time, plenty of scrappage deals around...

NCT is up in a month. It's a 2003 car, not going to get through the NCT
