So i just got a lower brace on yesterday and my god it is absolutely ****e i actually want to tell my parents i want them off but theyd be heartbroken
I also have an overbite and had to eat and wear with a top retainer on to stop the overbite, i wore it for about 2 months but the overbite is still there and the dentist said hed put a lower brace on ( im getting them for free via the system thing) and now the brackets are constantly hitting my top teeth and it takes me ridiculously long to eat

So im wondering is it that bad if the teeth hit the brackets
Also i play hurling will i be ok to wear the braces without the retainer ? I never wore the retainer in sports before
    Any help much appreciated

Your overbite isn't going to be fixed in two months, dude. Likewise, your bottom brace is going to be sore for a lot longer than just a day, I'm sorry to have to inform you. Braces are a long-term investment, they don't work overnight.

I also had retainers top and bottom with a rather large "shelf" on the top one to correct my overbite and yes, my bottom teeth hit off this continually. That's how they work.

It seems perhaps your orthodontist didn't explain to you exactly how your braces would feel and how long they'd take to work, so maybe you should give him a ring with your questions.

FWIW, and obviously every case is different, but I wore mine for two and a half years. It took me a good six weeks after I got them on before I could eat normally again and every time I got them tightened they were sore again for a day or two. That's life with braces, I'm afraid, but it's all amazingly worth it.
