hi, not sure if this is right forum but have a query re the school transport scheme. The child is starting secondary school in Sept (I know a long way off yet we trying to figure out logistics of what to do)

We live in a rural area and I know of two school buses pass through a junction about 1 mile from our house, so that will be pick up point. Problem is in the evening time, he will have a mile walk home after being dropped off. We're not finished till 6pm. He can walk it or cycle from there, just leave bike there in the morning.

The other option we'd prefer is if he could get a school bus to my mother's in the evening, but that's on a different route. Do Bus Eireann allow children to use a different route to their home address?

No, that wouldn't be possible without actually applying and paying for a second ticket from the alternative address.

Could he just use the school transport ticket/bus for mornings, and use a regular bus and pay a regular fare to your mother's place in the afternoons?

didn't know you could apply for a second ticket. Suppose best thing is to ring bus eireann and school transport and ask.

no bus service out past my mothers unfortunately. We live way out in the schticks. Looking like we will just have to put him on the school bus from our village and trust him to actually get on the bus after school and go home and not burn down the house while we are at work

I rang BE. We can put him on a different bus route to his home address. Lady said just book the bus ticket online on the school transport section as normal and then send them a follow up email with the address of my mother's and that is the bus route he will be given a ticket for. Happy days. thanks.
