Danny Watts comes out as gay

    Motorsport driver Danny Watts has come out as gay. He said that the macho, homophobic culture in the sport kept him from coming out until now.

    I say fair play to him. But is motorsport still homophobic? What do you think of this news? Watts joins a number of professional sportspeople who have come out. Should this even be news in 2017?

    I'm pretty sure closeted motorsports fans who remain in the closet because they worry about homophobia in the sport care. For every sportsperson who comes out, it is another role model for young gay people.

    Pity Watts didn't come out before he retired but better late than never.
