I'd just take cash because if it were me selling I wouldn't accept anything else. Bank drafts are to messy and take time to clear and abank transfer (which would also be acceptable) means you can't take the car with you unless you transfer the money before hand so cash is the only real option.

Cash and bring someone with you.

If you're making the purchase during the working day, office hours, once agreed with the seller that you're taking the car, you could take the seller with you to your bank (provided they have a branch there), take out money off your account and hand it down to the seller there and then.
That will save you carrying cash.

As a seller, I wouldn't accept anything else than cash, or money on my bank account (but I wouldn't hand down the key until I've physically seen the money on my account).

Check with the seller if they have a bank account with the same bank as yourself. If they do then you do an electronic transfer to their account on the same day.

I'd be reluctant to either bring a large amount of cash as a buyer without meeting the seller at their bank where the teller verifies the notes and lodges it straight into their account. From a seller's point of view I'd not want that amount of cash on me either when someone else who you only just met knowns you have it on you or in your house. Safest place to do a large cash transaction is in the bank itself.
