How can I attract Raptors to nest?

    Hi,

How can I attract wild birds of prey to stay?

Our farm had a Raptor (Hen harrier or Sparrow hawk I think) temporarily resting inside a shed for a while last winter. It occurred to me that they might be a good vermin killer if I could attract them to stay (Of course they are also very attractive and it's great to see them around).

    Thanks

It was more than likely a Sparrowhawk that you saw in your shed.

Both Kestrels and Barn Owls would be associated with farms, and you can get nestboxes for both, so it's worth researching them and maybe getting some expert advise about where best to put it on your farm. See this link for some info:

Buzzards too will eat a lot of rats, though they won't nest in boxes so you'll have to keep your fingers crossed for them to set up near you!
