Hi, My husband started up his own construction business over 6 months and he has been busy for the most of it, but it has hit a lull, and it seems to be quiet, he has advertised and is on facebook and tradesmen.ie and advertises locally, just wondering how does everyone else keep busy, and what happens if you hit a lull, I dont work outside the home as it wouldnt be worth our while to pay out to have kids minded, so any help advise would be greatly appreciated.

If he's happy to do some piddly little jobs to start his way from the bottom it might be worth going to a local engineer/architectural technician/architect and ask them if they have any small awkward jobs that they are finding it hard to get people to do. He might get lucky and if he does a good job they will think of including him in the tenderers when the next slightly bigger job comes along.

Bring some example of previous work and try to hit the smaller consultants rather than the big ones.

Worth a try anyway. No guarantees.

I would say to him pick up the phone and check in with all the plumbers, electricians, labourers etc that he has worked with in the past, see where they are working and let them know he is looking for a bit of work. They might have something or heard about something through the grapevine. I have a few friends working in construction and none of them advertise, or even have their name on the van but are busy all the time. Its all about networking as far as I can see.
