My lovely fiancee is treating me to a new timepiece. Having tried on a couple of IWC Portuguese (which is out of reach for a few years yet) I've pretty much settled on a Stowa 1938 Chrono as the more reasonable alternative.

Problem is, I'm struggling to decide between the two colours:

    So, bronze or black?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Black for me. Easier to read, clean contrasts.

Would you look at a very nice pre owned portofino? Same diameter at 41mm and pretty much the same price (give or take couple of hundred euro) but with better heritage?
I'm on mobile but it's on adverts and I know it could be had at a price pretty close to the the retail for the stowa?

    Black for sure.

Of these 2 black for sure.
I do like my white dials but the black is better in these options.

I've tried on Portofinos and just wasn't blown away with the look on my wrist in comparison to the Portuguese. Totally agree on the heritage front fwiw but even second hand Portuguese are north of 4k. I may try on the 41mm Portofino again before I make any final decision.

Black seems to have the crowd vote, which is where I was edging towards initially. Any thoughts on this strap?

Totally agree.. I was looking at both a couple of years ago and settled on the Portuguese. There is one to be had for just under the €4k mark currently but thats still double the price of the Stowa which is in itself a stunning watch. Looks superb on that strap for a bit of contrast.
