Hi, I was wondering how much notice applicants are usually given for the interview?
I applied on thursday night - a day before the deadline and was wondering how much time I will have to brush up on my Irish for the interview.

    Thanks!

Not sure jdevine but I was told it would be about 10 days between application and interview. I also applied on deadline day and am seriously panicking!

Last year I applied the 11th of January, and had my interview on the 2nd of February, so that might be an indicator of the time frame. I think I had 1 weeks notice, and then I remember getting the email that I had been offered a place, like 2 days later, even though they said it would be at least a week.
Their own time frames are a little flexible.

Hi I had my interview yesterday for the pme I applied on a Thursday and the following Tuesday they rang me telling me my interview date. They gave me 2 weeks notice for my interview. They said it will now take a week to be given a decision, so fingers crossed 😊

Good luck Roisinnolan, I'm waiting for an interview date for the April intake, expecting it to be in the next week or two. How did the Irish part of the interview go for you?

Fingers crossed you get one soon nothing worse. It went ok I feel I could've done better. It was very basic just the usual your name, where are you from, your work what you do in work, past times, will I be going on holidays, sports and music, what will I do that night. That was is really they are very helpful I wouldn't get bogged down with the Irish. They grill you in English aswel I couldn't believe some of the questions they asked. I want that prepared for the English as I focused on the Irish too much and didn't get to say half the stuff I learned. I'm thinkin I'm not gonna get in but glad i experienced it in case I have to do it again. But overall they are very nice and helpful

What kind of English questions threw you off? I'm hoping to have my interview soon, more nervous about the Irish but will definitely delegate an equal amount of time to English after reading your post.. fingers crossed you get it! 😊

I got a call from them today to say I'll hear from them regarding my interview date in the next 5/10 days that they have so many applications to go through I applied on the deadline date also.

They asked me what did I know about Hibernia, all about aistear as I work in a Montessori school at the minute, she said she would give me 2 mins and I had to talk about something I found that so hard and it totally threw me as I didn't know what to say. All about conflict in schools between other teachers, 5 words to describe me, what part of my life would i give up if i got in, all about computer skills etc they were tough questions wish I had been more prepared. Anything else I can do to help don't hesitate to ask. I only applied for it the week before the deadline so there must have been a huge influx the last week. It's such a relief to have it out of the way!

Conflict between other teachers is something I haven't thought about, was the Irish general enough or did they ask some hard questions. Hopefully you hear soon thats nearly worse than waiting for the date. Thanks for replying so soon.

The Irish was a lot more general than I thought it was gonna be but they ask questions based on your answers so I said I like reading and said my favourite book and she asked me about the book so be prepared for that. I mixed up my tenses at one stage and the interviewer helped correct me which was really nice so there not there to catch you out. I wish I focused more on the basics so hopefully you won't make the same mistakes as me!

Oh really, I took a year out between courses, work full time and done an SNA course so I feel they'll ask me about that... hoping it will be alright going to look at English tomorrow... that's good to hear that they're nice and help you out

Well done! I got offered my place too. Just trying to sort the financing at the moment so fingers crossed all comes through!

I found the Irish to be far more basic than I expected. The interviewer could not have been nicer and certainly not there to catch you out. She spoke very clearly and would rephrase things if she knew you hadn't quite grasped what she had asked.

The English interview was definitely tougher, but still fair. Asked me about balancing priorities because the course is a big commitment, asked about transferable skills from my current career (solicitor) to teaching and how I would deal with a parent coming to me and telling me they were not happy with how I was teaching his/her child. Other than that it was very straightforward.

    Best of luck to everyone!

It will be so worth it though! I'm Kilkenny wonder where they'll have the regional group meet? And when will we find out!

I was wondering about that too, but had a bit of a google/Facebook search. It seems loads of the previous coherts set up Facebook groups of their region, and found where the Meath one was for myself. Think you can probably take it that it would be the main town of whatever county you live in ie. Kilkenny is probably in the city and Laois is probably Portlaois.

Actually, have any of you gotten any further information since accepting your place? I paid fees the first week of February, and bar an email to say money received/ receipt to follow, I've heard nothing from the College ☹️
