Lightspeed Password?

Hi everyone, I am trying to bridge my HG659 router that came with my Lightspeed installation, but don't know what the account (internet) password is. The reason for wanting to do this is the huge speed difference on wifi. Using the HG659 I am getting around 132Mbps, but using my AC68U router as an access point, I am getting 280+Mbps (I'm on the 350 meg package).

Ultimately it would be great to replace their router all together and just use the AC68U direct to the modem.

When I had their normal fiber (to the cabinet) offering, the password was 'broadband', but this doesn't seem to work with Lightspeed.

Does anyone know what the password is?

Unless you have TV from Vod dump the Huawei, you can link the Asus directly to the ONT.

Have you tried a "no account" setup, its called different things on different brands.

Hey ED E, I thought that would be the case too, but when i run the wizard on the Asus (No username), it can't connect.

Is the username/password in the settings on the Huawei just for TV?

I suppose its a similar situation with the phone, you would need to keep the Vodafone router?

If you'd bought a route with an ATA it can register with Vodafones SIP server instead of the HG. In Caoimh1ns case he'd need buy a new standalone ATA to do it if the phone is required.

    Vodafones site claims:
    LightSpeed Broadband

If you’re trying to set up your new Vodafone broadband modem and can’t get it to work, give us a call on 1907 and we’ll troubleshoot the problem with you.
If you have Vodafone broadband but want to use your own modem (i.e. a third party model not supplied by Vodafone such as Belkin, Linksys, Netgear etc.) then you will need to configure the hardware settings manually.
Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for guidance on how to access the configuration settings on the router; then use the following values to configure the modem for Vodafone Broadband:

    User Name: vodafone@vodafone.ie
(a.k.a. Network ID, PPP Username, Login or Login Username)
    Password: broadband
    Encapsulation: PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet)
    Multiplexing: LLC-based
    VPI: 8
    VCI: 35
    MTU: use default setting
    DNS: auto assigned

If there is a need to be specified use the following
    Preferred DNS: 89.19.64.36
    Alternate DNS: 89.19.64.164
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.vodafone.ie

Suggesting they are still using PPPoE for Lightspeed.

Have you disconnected the HG, connected the 68U(WAN port) to the ONT and entered the above for the wan config Caoimh1ns? You may need to bypass the wizard if the options it provides are limited.

Otherwise the Vodafone site could be wrong and they cant do CSI ID(like all their other products) with lightspeed so youll have unique credentials that they'll have to give you.

Thanks ED E, I'll give that a go. It's strange tho, when I check the account settings on the Vodafone router, the username is the router serial number followed by @vfieftth.ie. I wonder if this is to allow remote access by Vodafone tech support?

    Ahh ok, use that.

They probably use separate RAS clusters for FTTH so the @vfieftth and @vodafone separates incoming calls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Caoimh1n

Finally got it! Thanks for all your help.

In the end to get it working, I selected PPPoE as the type. Username is the router serial number with @vfieftth.ie, and the password is broadband.

When I first tried this, using the setup wizard, it didn't work, but after setting vlan to 10, I am now only using the Asus router.

Hopefully this helps others that may want to do the same thing.

    Super.

This'll be really useful as the footprint expands. Bravo to Vodafone for not doing a Sky on this one.

Would this work wuth an archer c7

Hi Gulk, as long as the Archer router supports Vlan ID 10, then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Pretty much any decent router released in the last two year should be fully compatible (Just dont buy something without EthWAN).

your pretty much saying i can use any router to connect to lightspeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Yep, its much more "compatible" than DSL based services as the modem(ONT) and router are independent of each other.

got it working with an archer c7, had to request beta/custom firmware from TP Link support as I couldnt set my VLan id lower than 16... mad how fibre uses PPoE..... ps my ping seems to have dropped away 1-2 ms, along with possibly fixing a mini spike of 20 ms to rte . ie , i detest how ISPs give out subpar routers. ps does anyone think they should enforce a law enforcing the manufactuers to enable a timer that turns off unused wifi after a certain amount of time to lessen the pollution because amussingly most people have no ideas routers are configurable...lol srry offtopic btw thx for this info n thread

    Hi Caoimh1n

i have ordered an asus router and will have it next week. in the meantime i downloaded its user manual but cannot find where you would set the option vlan to 10

if possible can you post some screenshots of how to configure the ASUS Routers to use Vodafone Lightspped.

there are a number of post here on boards.ie of people getting ASUS routers o work but no details of where to put these settings in.

i have asked but no one is replying to my queries.

    Best Regards
    Flan

Hi Flan, I am running the Merlin firmware on my AC68U. On it you can change the vid by going in to Lan-IPTV-set to manual settings-then set internet vid to 10

I can't remember if you can set this value during initial setup.

    Thanks

I find local network speeds are better on the Asus, though both were able to get the full 350-360 meg internet speed.

My main gains are on the WIFI side of things (huge gains). The Asus also has a lot more features and control than the Huawei that Vodafone provide, and a much better gui.

The app for controlling the Asus is pretty handy as well, but you would need to turn on your WIFI to use it.

    Hi Caoimh1n

Sorry for the delay in posting my update. I wish to thank you for the information you provided which worked a treat.

I had a few hiccups getting there but now am working away on the Asus Router.

    1. when i setup the Asus out of the box I got the full speed gigabit speed
    2. when i flashed the latest official Asus firmware i was only getting 200mb. resetting the router to default would not fix it.
    3. flashed the latest merlin firmware and got back most of my Gigabit speed. According to speedtest.net i have lost a few mb over the vodafone router but at an almost Gigabit speed it is not noticeable.

Thanks again for your help in getting up and running

    Regards
    Flan

You may need to do it via the CLI. If thats double dutch to you, maybe dont use DD.

Did anyone with vodafone TV manage to get their own modem working on siro?

I'm not sure I've seen anyone detail doing it with SIRO as the W/S provider. The VLAN carrying multicast is dependent on them not Vodafone and they have no reason really to mimic OE.

They arent required to release tech specs for the whole process like OE are so looking it up may not be possible. Somebody like Westnet's Paul might be able to answer that though in the SIRO thread.

The Vlan carrying multicast is optional / different product to SIRO providers. So the providers that don't offer a TV service (Westnet, Airwire) etc. don't use it all.

there is actually two wan connections configured on the vodafone modem, one PPOE on vlan 10 for broadband, and one for IPOE on vlan 4 for TV. I've configured them as best as I could on the alternative modem and can get both connections to come up successfully, but vodafone tv just gets stuck at the boot screen.

The vodafone modem seems stable lately so less of an issue now, but would still like to use my own modem if possible. I can get my own modem to work fine for the internet connection

Theres a need to enable IGMP Snooping for them to rx the multicast frames. Implementation varies from OEM to OEM.

Here's a link to start ya off

Would you believe thats about the only box i didn't tick when doing trial and error testing, I seen the term snooping and thought it was to do with filtering stuff.

    Thanks for that

If you’ve flashed Merlin, does the app still work?
