My three year old is getting grommets put in next week due to constant ear infections. We still haven't told him as we don't want him to worry. Just wondering when and how parents of similar age children told their kids.

I suppose it depends how good his comprehension is. At 3 though, I think it'd be ok to say that he's going to see the doctor about his sore ears and they'll put him to sleep so they can get a good look in there? Presumably he'll be fasting for the general so denying him food is probably the tricky bit.
