Just watched Under the Skin. It's probably one of weirdest films I've seen. What the hell is it supposed to be about , it just seems like a series scenes with no real point and if Scarlett Johansonn wasn't so beautiful it wouldn't be watchable.I suppose it's nicely shot but it just seemed completely devoid of any real meaning.

What exactly was the point of the film?

its based on a book. i saw it. it was compelling, i couldnt stop watching it. its a horror movie. an alien based on earth and she has a mission, but she starts to question it. she then gets caught out herself. thats the best i can give you. it lives long in my mind. so eh... i guess it achieved its goal.

edit. the beach scene. jaysus h. christ. what a scene. disturbing and horrific. im glad i seen it. but.... nah...i got nothing more to say.

I kept watching alright and that scene on the beach is haunting particularly as I love dogs.

It reminded me of Tree of Life in some ways but Tree of Life developed into something more this kind of hung in the air.

It is about the gaze and identity, a creature coming to terms with itself and the confusion that brings with it. The idea of 'looking' at the world is brilliantly baked into the very form of the film, and how it shifts from this detached alien perspective to a slightly more human outlook towards the end.

    My take:

    Part one, the setup:
    She's an Alien
Yer man at the start is an Alien.
He sorts her out with a Human body to move about in.
Her job is to bring people back into their trap.
Looks like the water is sucked out of the peoples bodies and the rest get mulched and sent down something that looks like a conveyer belt. Into a large container was my guess. They didn't show.
Anyway, she went about her job and got a few people.

    Part two: her change
Then yer man seemed vulernable and cautious to her and so she started thinking about what she was doing.
Looked like she decided to run off to either think it over or actually try to escape the fair horrific job she was doing (killing other fully sentient/conscious life... us humans in this instance).
Anyway then we got to see how she got on.
She got to experience people by travelling about.

    Part three: the ending
So the other Aliens are out looking for her.
She also runs away from yer man after the confusing sex experience. I got the feeling she might not having the proper body parts.
Then yer man in the woods turned out to be a rapist/murderer.
He catches her, looks like he's going to do something terrible to a human but her skin suit comes off and he reacts with some mix of fear/confusion/anger.
It's not clear what he thinks she is.. ya know.. alien or monster.
Either way, he comes back with petrol or something and burns her to death.

I thought Scarlett Johansson acted it well. Kind of a similar level of different-from-humans as Arnie in Terminator.

As for her fate.. I dunno.. she was an Alien who had preyed on Humans. She might not have known what she was doing but in the end she had brought people to their death. I guess it's left to the viewer how they feel. I know I was all like.. WTF! :)

In a nutshell: Some unfortunates become intergalactic sausages.

It's a film that's just under two hours, feels like 4 hours, could have been done in half an hour.

Greatest load of twaddle I've seen in years.

one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen but hard to describe, but any parent will understand, harrowing but brilliantly done.

Or in the case of Dirty Dingus McGee, the love for dogs :D

Strange film alright. Weird van too. Thought it was a transit from the outside but certainly not from the dash its not. Just about an alien abducting poor unfortunate humans and using them as food is what I basically thought it was about. Been a while since I seen it now.

I'm pretty sure I saw Transit on the van.

For me there is nothing more harrowing in a film than watching a dog die, it's much worse than people dying (it know that sounds odd but that's just the way it is):D.

The moment in the film Daylight when Cooper (the Weimaraner) manages to come up from the water alive is one of the great moments of relief I've experienced watching a film.
