Just noticed no water from hot tap. Cold OK. Tanks empty in attic. Has taken ballcock off to try to get tank filling and trying to see if there's an airlock. Any suggestions please?

This water will be coming from the mains just like your cold water so first check if you have a water meter outside your property that some prankster hasn't turned off your supply. If you can turn clockwise its probably ok Its normal open position is fully anti clockwise. Also check if there are any valves that have been accidentally switched to off position Hope this is of some help

No valves turned water coming in so can't be off outside. Just not going to tank

As a temporary measure could you hose some water into the tank from an outside tap if you have one or try connecting to sink tap At least this would keep your toilet flushing until you find a remedy

Is there a valve on the pipe going to tank?.If there is maybe it has been accidentally closed or is blocked with sediment

Had you problems with it before? I don't think it's an air lock if it's good pressure.
Ball valves can get blocked with grit but you said you took it off and still no water. Try poking a bit of wire through the first bit of pipe where the mains joins the tank. But make sure feed is off when you do it. Also open the ball valve and have a look for dirt.

Well it would be good to see if you can fill it with a hose because then you would know for sure there is enough pressure.

Assuming there is there must be a blockage in a pipe, somewhere.

When you say you've taken the ball cock off this is not such a good idea as if the supply is restored during the night then you will have water water everywhere. Try pressing the ball cock lever down and up a few times there's a small cylinder in most of them that may be jammed Its worth a try

I doubt if that will help seeing as there is no water coming through the pipe with the ball cock off.

He's put ballcock back on cleaned it and it is working. Seems to be filling now so fingers crossed. Thanks for replies.

I could offer you the loan of a water pump and hose if you can collect This is one of 2 I use in my garden water butt to pump the water out for watering the flower beds so if you filled a wheelie bin with water for example then submerge the pump it will pump out the contents
